Part 4d Right Hand: Bow to instrument

Principles for getting a good result with the bow from the start:
1)  Practice setting the bow on and off from different strings
2)  Students begins by playing with the upper half of the bow starting near the middle for most instruments and short bows near the frog for basses:
Violin & Viola
Cello
Bass

3)  Basses should use short, weighted bows, while others should use full, light bow strokes
4)  Keep to one string at a time, and then gradually add string crossings 
5)  Call and response with different rhythms works best to teach how to play new rhythms (quarters and eighths at first)
6)  Have students play a favorite song from memory so they can watch their bow
7)  Once students get a good sound have them learn how to read new pieces using the bow
