Students begin with getting the hand shape
set on a pencil:
1) Draw the following lines on their
fingers so they know where to set pencil
2) Have them place hand with palm
side up
3) Students find second knuckle
of second finger with their thumb tip.
4) Set the pencil across the hand
along the marks made earlier.
5) Touch the thumb tip to the pencil
like in picture 2 below.
6) Turn the hand over and you have
the bow hold.
For Violin & Violas - the pinky goes
on top of pencil
Basses & Cellos - pinky hangs
down from pencil, but make sure palm does not touch pencil (make "mouse
house" like the left hand).
